Rethinking Colours
Vienna Textile Lab, a startup specializing in microbial dyes and pigments, has been selected for the New European Bauhaus (NEB) innovative Catalyse program by the EIT Community. It aligns with Vienna Textile Lab’s mission of creating a positive impact through sustainability, social innovation, aesthetics, and the production of biobased, safe, and high-performance textile dyes and pigments.
In November we were hosting in our Viennese lab a brilliant young designer and a sustainable colour researcher Julia Kaleta from Amsterdam.
inception in 2017, VTL cooperates with the bacteriograph and bacteria hunter Erich Schopf from Vienna, Austria. Erich has accumulated a huge treasure trove of different, intensely coloring bacteria over 20 years. We invited Erich for an interview to tell us how he discovered his passion for collecting bacteria and what he learned from working with microorganisms.

On 5th and 6th November 2018, the Green Chemistry Conference assembled over 200 scientists, entrepreneurs and policymakers in Vienna who had one thing in common: pushing innovative green-tech forward.
Last year Vienna Textile Lab got the opportunity to participate in a program called ClimateLaunchpad which is a professional competition platform for special business ideas.
