European Green Deal

The European Green Deal represents a significant commitment by the European Union to shift away from fossil fuels and achieve a 43% reduction in global emissions by 2030, with the ultimate goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

For us, the Green Deal has several aspects that apply to textile dyes and pigments:

Circular Economy

Mobilising the industry to a clean and circular economy:
Vienna Textile Lab offers biobased colours, so that our customers can create circular products that can be recycled and biodegraded properly. This alternative also allows our customers to design for degradation, which is vital in the circular economy. We are developing a process where our resources can be recycled, and reused and waste can be reduced or eliminated.

Biodiversity

Preserving and restoring ecosystems and understanding the power of Biodiversity:
At Vienna Textile Lab, we actively contribute to the preservation and restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity. Our commitment is reflected in our approach to studying microorganisms, allowing us to learn and derive insights without compromising natural ecosystems. By responsibly collecting a small sample of microorganisms once from nature and cultivating them in our lab, we avoid disrupting biodiversity. Through the study of microorganisms, we gain valuable insights into the intricate microcosms, fostering a deeper appreciation for the richness and complexity of nature. This exploration enhances our understanding of diverse ecosystems and highlights the crucial role microorganisms play in maintaining ecological balance.

Moreover, recognizing the potential of microorganisms as a valuable commodity of the future, we strive for independence from other supply chains in Europe. By leveraging these sustainable resources, we contribute to the development of resilient and self-sufficient production systems, ensuring the continuity of our commitment to biodiversity and environmental responsibility.

Bioeconomy

Increasing the EU’s climate ambition for 2030 and 2050 on climate protection:
Vienna Textile Lab supports this initiative by avoiding the use of chemicals and substances that deplete the ozone layer. Additionally, we assist our customers in creating circular products and improving their CO2 footprint throughout their value chain. In the first step, VTL scrutinizes energy usage, taking advantage of Austria’s rich hydro-powered electric grid. Moreover, our upstream processes operate at room temperature, providing a substantial energy advantage compared to chemical processes.

Zero Pollution for a toxic free environment:
Vienna Textile Lab supports the Zero Pollution Initiative by creating an alternative to polluting synthetic dyes. We offer biobased dyes and pigments. We have a waste management process in place to avoid the release of waste into the environment. We are developing a process that can allow us to use other industry’s waste and underutilized feedstocks to reduce and reuse waste in our process. The ultimate goal is to reuse all of our waste streams, recycling biomatter and solvent streams.
