Reflecting on BioColours 2024: A Vibrant Gathering of Innovation and Sustainability
As the vibrant hues of summer began to paint the city of Helsinki, the University of Helsinki played host to an equally colourful and inspiring event—BioColours 2024. From June 4th to 7th, this conference brought together a diverse group of researchers, companies, and stakeholders, all united by a shared passion for sustainable, biobased colours. It was an honour to be invited to this remarkable event, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers for their dedication and hospitality, especially to Professor Riikka Räisänen.
BioColours 2024 was a melting pot of ideas and innovations, offering a platform for exchanging knowledge and forging new collaborations. The conference was meticulously organized, with a program that catered to both seasoned experts and newcomers to the field of sustainable colours. The University of Helsinki, with its rich history and commitment to sustainability, provided the perfect backdrop for this gathering of minds.
One of the event’s highlights was the presentation by Vienna Textile Lab, a pioneer in the development of biobased pigments. Throughout the conference, we had the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions and workshops. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, from the latest advancements in microbial pigments to the challenges and opportunities in commercializing these innovations. The collaborative spirit of the event was palpable, with participants eager to share their insights and learn from one another. The book BIOcolours was introduced and showcases beautiful examples of research and design combined.
Networking was a key component of BioColours 2024, and the event provided ample opportunities for attendees to connect with like-minded individuals. Whether it was during the coffee breaks, poster sessions, or the evening social events, the atmosphere was one of camaraderie and mutual support. It was a pleasure to meet so many passionate individuals who are committed to driving change in the industry.
