Interreg CE – GreenChemForCE

The GreenChemForCE project is an innovative initiative aimed at revolutionizing the chemical industry in Central Europe. This transnational effort brings together experts from academia and industry across four countries: the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, and Austria. Interreg Central Europe is a European Union funding programme that supports transnational cooperation.

Project Objectives

The primary goal of GreenChemForCE is to address the environmental challenges posed by chemical production in Central Europe. Under the leadership of Charles University the project seeks to:

  • Reduce waste generation and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Decrease dependence on petroleum-derived materials
  • Eliminate the use of toxic chemicals
  • Improve energy efficiency in production processes

Key Strategies

To achieve these objectives, the project will:

  1. Identify specific problems faced by chemical producers in selected regions
  2. Develop solutions to minimize waste production and valorize remaining waste
  3. Implement recycling methods for critical raw materials
  4. Eliminate hazardous solvents from production processes
  5. Integrate advanced technologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability

Transnational Collaboration

The project’s success hinges on the cooperation between partners from different countries, allowing for:

  • Maximum integration of knowledge and expertise
  • Sharing of experiences across borders
  • Dissemination of results to a wider group of chemical companies and experts

Expected Outcomes

GreenChemForCE aims to deliver significant benefits to the Central European region:

  • Revitalization of the local chemical industry
  • Transformation of linear economic streams into closed-loop circular systems
  • Creation of conditions for the return of chemical production to Europe
  • Development of green and cost-effective processes

Public Engagement and Education

The project also focuses on:

  • Raising public awareness about green chemistry principles
  • Training a new generation of experts in sustainable chemical practices
  • Improving the public perception of the regional chemical industry

By fostering stronger connections between partners, GreenChemForCE aims to establish long-term collaboration between universities, chemical companies, and other organizations, ultimately driving a shift towards more sustainable and environmentally conscious chemical production throughout Central Europe.
